Message From The Coach
What a wonderful journey we have been on and continue to be on. I feel with the help from all drill members, we have developed a very unique, creative and entertaining way to promote the morgan breed and our programs from the University of Connecticut. This team is not the only job in the life of these magnificent horses; they work every day teaching many to ride, drive, train, breed, foal out, and great horsemanship in general.
After many, many years of coaching, I still feel very fortunate to be able to continue this extraordinary team of so many different students and equine in all my capacities at the Animal Science department. Are you interested in becoming a member of the team? What the coach and current team are looking for:
What are "Try Outs" to be on the Uconn Morgan Drill Team? We ride with 8, 10, or 12 riders depending on the need when try outs are in session. We do try outs as needed, usually every year and as members graduate. Please feel free to ask a team member any question you may have, we are happy to answer them! We have a lot of fun and are a very close-knit team. ***If you are interested in becoming a member of the UConn Morgan Drill Team, contact Coach Kathy Pelletier at [email protected] For more information on practicum, click here.*** We require each member of the Drill Team to pay a practicum fee of $481 a semester (same price as a lesson once a week). This pays for practice time and use of the horses. We practice on Wednesday nights from 5:00pm – 6:30pm. Alternates We are looking for several alternate riders! Alternates don't pay to be an alternate. They learn a lot about the team while assisting the coach during practice and watching how a pattern is made. This is a great opportunity to learn about the team and decide if it is right for you. We use alternates in demonstrations and practices when we do not have enough riders, and they are required to come to practice with the team. When the time comes for tryouts again, they are the first asked to ride with the team if they are up for it, then we open that process up for everyone. They do not have to try out again! When a vacancy becomes available, the Coach will choose from alternates first! |
